Carrier Training for Cats: Making Vet Trips Easier

Choose the right carrier

A sturdy carrier with a removable top lets a vet examine your cat without pulling it out.

Make the carrier furniture

Leave the carrier out at home with soft bedding and the door off. Drop treats inside and let your cat explore in its own time.

Build up step by step

  • Feed meals near, then inside, the carrier
  • Close the door for a second, then open and reward
  • Lift the carrier briefly, then set it down
  • Take short car trips that end at home

On the day

Cover the carrier with a towel, carry it level and secure it in the car. Spray bedding with a synthetic feline pheromone 15 minutes beforehand if you use one.
