History
An ancient Japanese hunting dog for small game; the modern population was rebuilt after the Second World War.
Appearance
Compact and foxy, with a curled tail, in red, sesame, black-and-tan or cream.
Exercise and activity
An hour daily on a secure lead or in a fenced area.
Care and grooming
Brush weekly and daily during the dramatic twice-yearly moult.
