History
Bred at Guisachan estate in the Scottish Highlands in the 1860s by crossing a yellow retriever with the now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel.
Appearance
Balanced and powerful with a broad head, friendly expression and cream to rich gold feathered coat.
Exercise and activity
At least an hour daily; retrieving, swimming and scent games suit the breed's original purpose.
Care and grooming
Brush several times weekly to prevent mats behind the ears and on the trousers, and dry the ears after swimming.
