History

Developed in Germany from the Bullenbeisser hunting mastiff and English Bulldog in the late 1800s.

Appearance

Square, muscular and short-coated, in fawn or brindle, often with white markings.

Exercise and activity

At least ninety minutes daily with play and training; keep exercise moderate in heat.

Care and grooming

Minimal grooming; provide coats in cold weather and shade in hot weather.
