History
Created by tax collector Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann in 1890s Germany as a personal protection dog.
Appearance
Sleek and square, in black, red, blue or fawn with rust markings.
Exercise and activity
Ninety minutes daily including training and problem-solving.
Care and grooming
Minimal coat care but needs warm coats in cold weather; annual cardiac screening is strongly advised.
