History
Bred for centuries on Skye and the Highlands to clear vermin from stone cairns, hence the name.
Appearance
Compact, shaggy terrier with a foxy expression, pricked ears and a weather-resistant double coat in cream, wheaten, red or brindle.
Exercise and activity
Around an hour daily plus play; enjoys earthdog trials and scent games.
Care and grooming
Weekly brushing and occasional hand-stripping; a dig-proof garden helps.
